THE WASINI DHOW TOUR

In the early morning we will pick you up from your Holiday Home, this is normally around 6.30 am. The drive takes around 60 minutes from Diani to Shimoni using the Mombasa to Tanzania highway. On the way you get to see the culture of the people and also sugarcane plantations. Since we don’t take many guests (max 12 Person on Dhow "Nava;" and maximum 16 person on double the size Dhow "Babul Kheri") on our tours, you will be most of the time the first guests in the Kisite Marine Nationalpark. That gives us the advantage of spotting dolphins before all other Dhows arrive there.

Upon arrival to Shimoni you go pick your park fee tickets, then you go on our traditional Arabic dhow called “Waswila”. There you meet our captain, 2 crew members and a tour guide who give you the program of the day as you enjoy your refreshing Swahili breakfast which includes coffee/tea, fruits , bhajia and mandazi. Our Dhow Waswila (which is fitted with a music system) then goes to Kisite Marine Park where you enjoy a personalized and professional snorkeling (or diving for a small extra cost) experience graced by the presence of dolphins, sea turtles, octopus , lobster, grupper fish, trampet fish, moorena fish, stingrays, star fish and many more. Please don’t forget that the Kisite Marine Park isn’t a Zoo – so we can’t guarantee all the fishes, but be sure that our crew is professional trained and they will do their best for a perfect day for you. We have the latest snorkeling equipments inclusive prescription masks and flippers as well as the new full face masks from Tribord , which are especially perfect for beginners, cause you can breath with them through your nose and water wouldn’t enter the mask. You get to snorkel in two different locations of Kisite Marine Park where you get to see the beauty of the coral reefs and much more. From the park you can clearly see Tanzania.

…and that’s why we have an underwater camera that will take photos and videos for FREE throughout the day. In the evening our manager will upload them on Dropbox and after your request via facebook (www.fb.com/dianidhow), via email (hello@dianidhow.com) or WhatsApp (+254 (0)720 6377730) he will send you the download link. From here you sail (if the wind conditions allow us) back to Wasini Island for lunch as you relax on our spacious dhow listening to our or your (you can bring an usb stick with your favorite songs) music and having some cold beverages. When you get to the island you get a delicious fresh Swahili sea food lunch with their king crabs, there is an option of vegetarian food or chicken incase one doesn’t eat sea food. We offer two glasses of wine or two beers – and for sure all non-alcoholic drinks are FREE during the day too. After lunch you have the chance to walk to the Coral Garden through the village where you get to see the cultural practices and the way of life of Wasini Island residents. The Coral Garden is a womens project and it’s a broad walk filled with corals and mangroves of different shapes and sizes. Normally the place is dry but during the high tides all the corals are covered by water. This is a really magnificent sight to see. When you get to the mainland you go to the Slave Caves. There you learn more about the history of Kenyans and what they went through during colonialism. THEN YOU DRIVE BACK TO YOUR HOTEL…..
